EXT-WHITE White Masterbatch

High-performance white masterbatch solutions for packaging, film, blow moulding, thermoforming, injection moulding, technical plastics and engineered polymer applications.

EXTRUTEX EXT-WHITE is a professionally engineered range of white masterbatches developed for processors that require controlled whiteness, consistent dispersion, reliable processing and stable optical performance. Product development, laboratory work and formulation research are supported by the EXTRUTEX development team in Austria, while industrial manufacturing is carried out in China using controlled production processes.

EXT-WHITE White Masterbatch for Modern Polymer Processing

White masterbatch is much more than a simple colour additive. The final appearance of a plastic product depends on the interaction between titanium dioxide, carrier polymer, additives, dispersion quality, processing temperature, product thickness, surface characteristics and the formulation of the final polymer compound.

EXTRUTEX EXT-WHITE has been developed around these principles. The range is designed to provide manufacturers with a practical and flexible solution for producing white plastic products with consistent colour and opacity. Depending on the application, the formulation can be engineered for different polymer carriers, processing conditions, whiteness levels, opacity requirements, heat exposure and end-product specifications.

Titanium dioxide is one of the most important components in a white masterbatch. Its optical characteristics, particle size distribution, surface treatment and compatibility with the polymer system all influence the final result. The concentration of titanium dioxide is also a critical formulation parameter. A higher pigment concentration can provide strong colouring efficiency and opacity, but the overall masterbatch performance also depends on dispersion, carrier selection and the requirements of the final product.

For this reason, EXT-WHITE is available as an application-oriented product family rather than a single universal formulation. EXTRUTEX can develop or select suitable grades for commodity polymers, engineering plastics and specialised applications.

Why Titanium Dioxide Quality Matters

The whiteness and opacity of a masterbatch are strongly influenced by the titanium dioxide incorporated into the formulation. However, pigment loading alone does not determine performance. The ability to disperse titanium dioxide uniformly throughout the carrier polymer is equally important.

Poor dispersion can result in colour variation, visible pigment agglomerates, reduced opacity, surface defects and inconsistent appearance. In demanding applications, these defects may become particularly visible after injection moulding, extrusion, thermoforming or film production.

EXT-WHITE formulations are therefore designed with attention to pigment dispersion, polymer compatibility and processing behaviour. The objective is to help processors achieve stable and repeatable results while maintaining efficient production.

Depending on the grade and application, the masterbatch can be engineered around different whiteness and opacity requirements. Standard white grades can be suitable for general packaging and disposable products, while more technically demanding formulations can be developed for engineering polymers, household appliances, durable consumer products and outdoor applications.

Designed for Different Levels of White Performance

Plastic manufacturers do not always require the same type of white. A packaging film may require economical colouring and controlled opacity, while a premium injection-moulded component may require a specific shade, excellent surface appearance and long-term colour stability.

Standard White Applications

Standard EXT-WHITE grades are suitable for applications where a clean and uniform white appearance is required at an economical processing cost. Typical applications include disposable products, general packaging, bags, containers, household articles and other high-volume plastic products.

High-Opacity White

High-opacity formulations are intended for products where hiding power and coverage are important. These grades can be considered for films, sheets, packaging containers, thermoformed products and moulded components where the underlying material or colour needs to be effectively masked.

Technical White

Technical white masterbatches are designed for more demanding polymers and processing conditions. These applications can include engineering plastics, electrical components, appliance parts, technical mouldings and compound formulations where thermal stability, dispersion and appearance must be carefully controlled.

Special White Shades

White does not necessarily mean one single colour. Modern consumer products may require warm white, cool white, neutral white, bluish white or other controlled shades. EXTRUTEX can support colour development according to the customer's polymer, product geometry, processing technology and target appearance.

Technical Performance for Engineering Plastics

Engineering polymers can expose a masterbatch to substantially higher processing temperatures than many conventional packaging materials. The formulation must therefore be compatible with the processing window of the base polymer.

EXT-WHITE grades for technical applications can be developed with attention to thermal stability, pigment dispersion and polymer compatibility. This is particularly relevant for materials such as ABS, SAN, PA, PC, PBT, PET, PES and other engineering polymers.

For durable products, colour stability can also be important after manufacturing. Depending on the application, UV-stabilised or weathering-oriented formulations may be considered. The appropriate solution depends on the polymer, pigment system, product geometry, exposure conditions and required service life.

EXTRUTEX therefore recommends selecting EXT-WHITE according to the complete processing and end-use specification rather than simply selecting a masterbatch according to its pigment concentration.

White Masterbatch for Film Packaging

Film production requires stable pigment dispersion because even small variations can become visible across a large film surface. EXT-WHITE grades for film applications can be formulated for extrusion processes where consistent colour and opacity are required.

Depending on the final film structure, EXTRUTEX can provide white masterbatch solutions for polyethylene, polypropylene and selected specialty polymers. The formulation can be adjusted according to film thickness, required opacity, extrusion temperature and target dosing ratio.

White masterbatch is commonly used in packaging films where a controlled white background, branding surface or hiding effect is required. Consistent dispersion is particularly important for printed or visually demanding packaging.

Blow Moulding and Thermoforming

In blow moulding and thermoforming, the final product may contain relatively thin walls and large visible surfaces. A suitable white masterbatch should provide uniform distribution throughout the polymer matrix without creating excessive processing problems.

EXT-WHITE can be formulated for bottles, containers, packaging articles, trays, technical components and other thermoformed or blow-moulded products. Grade selection can be based on polymer type, wall thickness, required opacity and processing temperature.

Injection Moulding and Technical Products

Injection moulding places particular demands on colour consistency because processing conditions can change rapidly during filling, packing and cooling. The masterbatch must disperse effectively and remain stable within the processing window of the polymer.

EXT-WHITE technical grades can be considered for appliance components, electrical parts, consumer products, housings, automotive components, industrial parts and other injection moulded products.

For premium products, the white shade can be developed according to a reference sample or defined colour target. EXTRUTEX can work with customers to establish the required shade, polymer compatibility and processing conditions before industrial production.

EXTRUTEX Austria Development & China Manufacturing

EXT-WHITE combines Austrian development expertise with industrial manufacturing capability in China. EXTRUTEX maintains its laboratory, research and product development activities in Austria, supporting formulation development, application engineering and product improvement.

Industrial production is carried out in China, where EXTRUTEX operates its manufacturing network and works with controlled compounding and masterbatch production processes. This structure allows EXTRUTEX to combine European-oriented product development with competitive industrial manufacturing.

Every application is different. For this reason, customers can provide information about their polymer, processing technology, product thickness, target colour, opacity and current masterbatch usage. EXTRUTEX can then recommend an appropriate EXT-WHITE formulation or develop an application-specific solution.

How to Select the Correct White Masterbatch

Selecting the correct white masterbatch should begin with the base polymer and manufacturing technology. The same formulation should not automatically be used for every plastic process. Processing temperature, residence time, shear, product thickness and final application can significantly influence the required formulation.

EXTRUTEX recommends evaluating at least the following parameters:

  1. Base polymer and polymer grade
  2. Processing technology
  3. Processing temperature
  4. Product thickness and geometry
  5. Required whiteness and opacity
  6. Target masterbatch addition rate
  7. Required surface appearance
  8. Indoor or outdoor application
  9. Required UV resistance
  10. Required long-term colour stability
  11. Regulatory or application-specific requirements

By analysing these factors, EXTRUTEX can identify the most appropriate EXT-WHITE grade or develop a customised formulation for the customer's production process.

Quality and Production Control

Consistency is fundamental to masterbatch production. Variations in pigment dispersion, carrier composition or processing conditions can affect the final plastic product. EXTRUTEX therefore approaches white masterbatch production as a controlled compounding process rather than simply a pigment mixing operation.

Laboratory development in Austria supports formulation optimisation, while manufacturing in China provides scalable industrial production. Depending on the customer requirement, development can include laboratory trials, colour evaluation, processing trials and production-scale validation.

This approach is particularly valuable for customers who manufacture large volumes of packaging, technical components or consumer products and need a stable masterbatch solution across multiple production batches.
