Description
EXTRUTEX Multilayer PVC/ASA/PMMA Glazed Roof Tile Production Line
The EXTRUTEX Multilayer PVC/ASA/PMMA Glazed Roof Tile Production Line is designed for manufacturing decorative plastic roofing tiles with customized profiles, attractive surface finishes, and multilayer material structures. The complete production system can be configured for single-layer PVC tiles, PVC-based multilayer co-extruded roofing sheets, and selected three-layer structures incorporating a foamed inner layer.
Designed for continuous polymer processing, the EXTRUTEX line integrates material feeding, extrusion, melt distribution, die forming, corrugation, cooling, haul-off, cutting, and finished-product stacking. Depending on the project requirements, the system can also incorporate dedicated tooling and forming equipment for main roofing tiles and ridge tiles.
Typical product widths can be configured within the supplied reference range of 710–1220 mm. Target finished widths may include 720 mm, 930 mm, and 1100 mm, subject to confirmation of the effective product width and tooling design. Reference product thicknesses range from 0.8–3.0 mm for the listed single-layer configurations and 2.5–3.0 mm for the specified multilayer configurations.
EXTRUTEX develops equipment configurations around the customer's material formulation, roofing profile, target production capacity, surface requirements, and factory conditions. The objective is to provide a coordinated production line rather than treating the extruder, die, forming equipment, and downstream machinery as independent units.
1. Applications of PVC Glazed Roof Tile Extrusion
PVC glazed roof tiles are used in residential construction, industrial buildings, warehouses, agricultural facilities, workshops, commercial properties, and renovation projects. Their molded surface profiles and decorative finishes allow manufacturers to develop roofing products with different appearances and functional characteristics.
Rigid PVC can provide the main structure of a roofing tile, while suitable ASA or PMMA surface materials may be selected when additional surface performance, color retention, or decorative characteristics are required. The choice of material depends on the intended outdoor environment, formulation compatibility, processing conditions, and required service performance.
ASA and PMMA are different polymers and should be selected according to the intended product specification. ASA is an acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate polymer, while PMMA is polymethyl methacrylate, commonly known as acrylic. Their processing characteristics and compatibility with the underlying PVC compound must be evaluated when designing a co-extruded structure.
EXTRUTEX can assess the equipment requirements for PVC/ASA and PVC/PMMA roofing products, including single-layer production, two-layer structures, three-layer arrangements, and selected foamed-core designs. The final line configuration should be based on the specific materials and product drawings.
2. EXTRUTEX Glazed Roof Tile Extrusion Line Characteristics
- Flexible extrusion platform: The line can be engineered with suitable conical twin-screw or parallel twin-screw extruders according to the compound, required output, and processing window.
- Multilayer production options: Single-layer, A+B, A+B+C, and A+B+A structures can be evaluated when the required extruders, material-feeding arrangement, and die design support the selected architecture.
- Controlled plasticizing: Appropriate screw and barrel design, feeding consistency, and temperature management help support uniform melting and material processing.
- Customized roof tile profiles: Forming rollers and moulds can be engineered for different wave patterns, tile dimensions, surface designs, and architectural requirements.
- Dedicated ridge tile options: Suitable forming equipment can be included for ridge tile production when required by the product range.
- Integrated downstream equipment: Haul-off, cooling, cutting, collection, and stacking can be coordinated with the extrusion process.
- Process engineering support: Equipment selection can consider production capacity, material consumption, finished-product performance, operating efficiency, and maintenance requirements.
- Automation options: A centralized control system can be specified to coordinate machine operation and monitor relevant production parameters.
Low shear stress, suitable residence time, and stable temperature control are important considerations for processing heat-sensitive PVC compounds. Actual material behavior depends on the screw geometry, compound formulation, machine settings, and production rate. These factors should be evaluated during equipment selection and commissioning.
3. EXTRUTEX Glazed Roof Tile Production Line Technical Parameters
The following table reorganizes the supplied reference data. All original SJZ model prefixes have been changed to EXZ. The auxiliary extruder designation SJ50 is retained pending confirmation of its intended EXTRUTEX model name.

Technical note: The capacities above are supplied reference values, not guaranteed production rates for every formulation and product size. Actual output depends on material composition, layer ratio, effective width, thickness, die design, screw configuration, forming speed, cooling capacity, and operating conditions. The final configuration and performance should be confirmed during project engineering and production trials.
4. Single-Layer PVC Glazed Roof Tile Production
The EXTRUTEX single-layer roof tile line is designed for continuous extrusion and forming of PVC roofing tiles. A typical arrangement includes a feeding system, EXZ-series conical twin-screw extruder, extrusion die, forming mould, cooling section, haul-off, cutting equipment, and stacking system.
The EXZ80/156 configuration has a supplied reference output of 450–550 kg/h, while the EXZ92/188 configuration has a supplied reference output of 600–700 kg/h. Selection should be based on the desired production rate, compound formulation, sheet thickness, roofing profile, and required finished dimensions.
During operation, the prepared compound enters the extruder through the feeding system. The screw and barrel convey, compact, melt, and homogenize the material before delivering the melt to the die. The die distributes the material across the required width, and the downstream forming equipment shapes the hot sheet into the specified glazed roofing profile.
Stable feeding and melt delivery help maintain consistent thickness and surface appearance. Temperature management, forming pressure, cooling, and haul-off speed must be coordinated to limit dimensional variation and maintain the required roofing geometry.
Typical Single-Layer Line Equipment
- Raw material feeding and conveying equipment
- EXTRUTEX EXZ-series conical twin-screw extruder
- Sheet extrusion die and melt distribution system
- Roof tile forming mould and pattern roller
- Cooling and calibration equipment
- Haul-off and conveying system
- Track cutter or another suitable cutting system
- Finished tile stacking and collection equipment
- Central electrical control system
5. PVC/ASA and PVC/PMMA Multilayer Co-Extrusion
Multilayer co-extrusion combines two or more polymer streams into a single roofing product. This allows the structural layer and surface layer to be designed for different functions, subject to material compatibility and the requirements of the final product.
In a PVC/ASA or PVC/PMMA configuration, a PVC-based compound may provide the main body of the roofing tile, while a suitable ASA- or PMMA-containing layer can be designed to provide the required surface appearance and performance. The layer ratio, formulation, bonding quality, and process conditions should be determined for the chosen materials.
The main extruder supplies the structural layer, while an auxiliary extruder supplies the additional surface material. The streams enter a suitable co-extrusion die, where dedicated flow channels distribute and combine the melts. The resulting multilayer sheet then passes through the forming and cooling sections.
Reliable co-extrusion requires careful control of melt temperature, viscosity, pressure, output ratio, residence time, and die-channel geometry. Because PVC, ASA, and PMMA have different processing characteristics, the die and operating window must be developed for the specific grades selected for the project.
Available Layer Architectures
- A+B: A two-layer structure combining a main layer with a second functional or decorative layer.
- A+B+C: A three-layer structure using three material streams, subject to the required extrusion and die arrangement.
- A+B+A: A three-layer arrangement with a central layer between two outer layers of the designated material or formulation.
- Foamed-core structure: A multilayer sheet incorporating a foamed inner layer, where the selected formulation and equipment are designed for that purpose.
These layer structures describe possible product designs, not universal capabilities of every configuration in the table. The final extruder allocation, die design, and layer distribution must be confirmed for the intended product.
6. T-Die and Melt Distributor Design
The T-die is one of the most important components in a glazed roof tile extrusion line. It distributes the molten polymer across the sheet width and establishes the melt flow entering the forming section. For multilayer products, the die must also maintain the intended arrangement of the individual layers.
The die flow channels, manifold geometry, temperature zones, and material residence time influence the stability of extrusion. Uneven flow distribution can contribute to thickness variation, surface defects, inconsistent layer ratios, or unstable forming behavior.
When processing PVC together with ASA or PMMA, the die design must account for the different flow and temperature characteristics of the selected compounds. Suitable hot-runner and distributor design can help improve melt-flow balance and reduce stagnant areas where material may remain too long.
Because PVC is sensitive to excessive heat and residence time, temperature control and suitable operating procedures are important for limiting degradation and the risk of material deposits. The correct design depends on the material grades, output target, die dimensions, and layer structure.
Key T-Die Design Considerations
- Uniform melt distribution across the required width
- Appropriate flow channels for the selected layer structure
- Temperature control across the die zones
- Balanced flow between the main extruder and auxiliary extruder
- Reduced stagnant regions and manageable cleaning access
- Compatibility with the intended roofing profile and thickness
- Stable output into the forming and calibration system
7. Customized Glazed Roof Tile Profiles
EXTRUTEX can develop roofing profile tooling according to customer drawings, sample dimensions, and intended applications. Customization may include wave height, wave pitch, tile width, surface texture, overlap geometry, and other design features required for the finished roofing product.
Specialized profile design gives manufacturers the opportunity to differentiate their product ranges and serve different architectural or regional requirements. Customization should consider not only the visual pattern but also water drainage, installation overlap, handling, dimensional stability, and the intended roof system.
Before tooling is manufactured, the profile drawing should define the effective finished width, cross-sectional geometry, thickness, and critical tolerances. The die and forming mould should be engineered together so that the extruded sheet can be formed consistently without excessive distortion.
Where different roof tile profiles are required, interchangeable forming components may be considered if the equipment structure supports them. A profile change may also require corresponding die adjustments, guides, cooling settings, and downstream synchronization.
8. Forming Mould and Calibration System
The forming mould shapes the hot extruded sheet into the specified glazed roof tile profile. Its geometry, surface finish, rigidity, temperature behavior, and cooling arrangement all influence product quality.
Cast aluminum can be used for suitable forming and calibration components when its mechanical and thermal properties meet the design requirements. The final tooling material should be selected according to the operating temperature, wear requirements, profile complexity, and expected production conditions.
Precision machining and suitable surface finishing help create consistent forming surfaces. The tooling must match the roofing profile and support the material during shaping and cooling. Temperature management should be coordinated across the forming width to help maintain stable dimensions.
An air curtain or directed-air cooling arrangement may be installed at a suitable discharge position to assist cooling. Its contribution depends on the airflow, nozzle layout, sheet temperature, production speed, and total cooling design. It should complement the main cooling system rather than replace the required calibration and cooling capacity.
Forming Mould Functions
- Shape the hot sheet into the specified roof tile profile
- Support consistent wave geometry and finished dimensions
- Maintain contact and forming conditions across the working width
- Coordinate with downstream cooling and haul-off
- Allow access for cleaning, inspection, and maintenance
- Support repeatable production of the approved roofing design
9. Main Tile and Ridge Tile Forming Equipment
Some roofing product ranges require both main tiles and ridge tiles to create a coordinated roofing system. The main tile forms the primary roof surface, while ridge tiles are designed to cover and finish the roof ridge or other relevant junctions according to the roofing design.
EXTRUTEX can evaluate dedicated forming equipment for main tiles and ridge tiles as part of a broader production project. The appropriate process depends on the product geometry, material, dimensions, forming method, and expected production volume.
Ridge tile tooling should be developed around the required cross-section, joining dimensions, and compatibility with the main roof tile. Production equipment and tooling should be confirmed separately where the ridge tile geometry cannot be produced using the main tile forming system.
10. Cooling, Haul-Off, and Line Synchronization
After forming, the roofing sheet must be cooled sufficiently to maintain its profile and dimensions. Cooling requirements depend on material composition, product thickness, profile geometry, line speed, and the selected forming method.
The haul-off system moves the sheet through the downstream equipment at a controlled speed. It must be coordinated with extruder output and forming conditions to avoid unnecessary tension, compression, or dimensional changes.
Stable conveying helps the cutting system separate the product at the required length. In multilayer production, cooling and haul-off conditions should also support layer integrity and avoid deformation while the sheet is still warm.
Downstream Equipment
| Equipment | Function |
|---|---|
| Forming and calibration mould | Creates the specified roofing profile and supports dimensional stability |
| Cooling system | Helps stabilize the formed sheet before cutting |
| Haul-off system | Maintains controlled movement through the downstream process |
| Track cutter | Cuts the roofing sheet to the specified length |
| Stacker or collection unit | Organizes finished tiles for handling and packaging |
11. Track Cutter and PVC Chip Collection
The EXTRUTEX track cutter is designed to cut continuously produced roofing sheets into finished lengths. The cutting arrangement should be matched to the product thickness, corrugated geometry, material behavior, production speed, and required edge quality.
A synchronized track cutting system follows the movement of the sheet during the cutting cycle. Suitable mechanical design and control settings help support consistent cutting lengths and reduce unnecessary disturbance to the downstream process.
An enclosed cutting area and chip collection chamber can be included to help control the spread of PVC particles. Where required, an extraction connection can be integrated with an appropriate collection system to improve housekeeping around the cutting station.
Track Cutter Design Features
- Cutting method selected for the roofing sheet geometry
- Synchronization with downstream line speed
- Adjustable cutting length according to the product specification
- Blade enclosure and suitable safety guarding
- Chip collection chamber or extraction connection where specified
- Access for blade inspection, cleaning, and maintenance
Cutting performance depends on blade condition, operating parameters, material formulation, sheet support, and synchronization. The final cutting system should be selected and tested against the intended product.
12. Extruder Technology and Screw & Barrel Design
The extruder is the central processing unit of the roof tile production line. Its purpose is to convey, melt, mix, and deliver the polymer compound to the die at a suitable and consistent rate.
EXTRUTEX can evaluate conical twin-screw or parallel twin-screw technology according to the PVC compound, required output, material processing characteristics, and line configuration. For multilayer production, auxiliary extruders may be required to supply the additional material streams.
Screw and barrel design should provide suitable conveying and plasticizing performance while managing the thermal history of the compound. Screw geometry, temperature zones, feeding stability, drive capacity, and melt delivery all affect the operating window.
Low shear stress and stable plasticizing are useful design objectives for suitable PVC processing applications. However, actual performance depends on the machine configuration, formulation, screw speed, output, and process settings. It should be validated under production conditions rather than assumed from the extruder model alone.
13. Feeding System and Temperature Management
Consistent feeding helps maintain stable extrusion output and reduces fluctuations in material delivery. Depending on the compound and factory layout, the line can be equipped with suitable hoppers, feeders, conveying equipment, and material preparation systems.
Temperature management should be coordinated across the extruder, die, forming mould, pattern roller, and downstream cooling section. For multilayer extrusion, the temperature requirements of each material stream must be considered alongside melt pressure and output ratio.
Appropriate operating procedures help reduce material degradation, unstable flow, surface defects, and dimensional variation. The final temperature profile and operating range should be established through material trials and documented during commissioning.
14. PLC Control and Electrical Components
The EXTRUTEX roof tile line can be supplied with a centralized electrical control system designed to coordinate the extruders and downstream machinery. Depending on the agreed scope, PLC-based automation may support temperature monitoring, drive control, line-speed coordination, cutting synchronization, equipment status, and alarm management.
The electrical design should consider the required control functions, local electrical standards, maintenance access, component availability, and customer preferences. Industrial electrical components can be selected according to the approved technical specification.
Specific brands, models, and country-of-origin requirements should be confirmed in the final bill of materials and electrical documentation. The final configuration should not assume a particular supplier unless that supplier is explicitly included in the agreed specification.
15. Material Selection and Formulation Guidance
The performance of glazed roofing tiles depends on the raw material formulation and the extrusion process. PVC compounds may contain resin, stabilizers, impact modifiers, processing aids, lubricants, pigments, fillers, and other additives selected for the intended product.
For PVC/ASA or PVC/PMMA co-extrusion, the materials must be selected for the intended processing conditions and layer structure. Surface appearance, adhesion, weathering requirements, and compatibility should be considered during material selection.
For a foamed inner layer, the formulation and process must be designed to produce the intended density and cellular structure. The selected foaming system must be compatible with the extruder, die, forming equipment, and cooling process.
EXTRUTEX can discuss equipment-oriented formulation requirements and raw material sourcing considerations. Final recipes and performance should be validated with suitable material suppliers and through production trials.
16. Production Capacity and Product Quality
The supplied configurations cover reference output figures from approximately 400 to 700 kg/h. These figures should be evaluated alongside the finished product's width, thickness, profile, layer structure, and formulation.
Maximum extrusion output does not necessarily equal the maximum rate of finished roofing tiles. The die, forming mould, cooling section, haul-off, cutter, and stacking system must all be capable of handling the required throughput while maintaining the specified product dimensions.
Quality checks may include:
- Raw material identification and batch traceability
- Extruder operating condition and temperature monitoring
- Finished tile width and thickness measurements
- Profile geometry and dimensional checks
- Surface appearance and color consistency
- Layer distribution and adhesion assessment for multilayer products
- Foam structure and density checks where applicable
- Cut length and edge quality inspection
- Finished product handling and packaging inspection
Acceptance criteria and inspection frequency should be agreed according to the product specification and applicable requirements. Output and product quality should be verified through trials using representative production materials.
17. Installation and Factory Planning
Before installation, the complete production line layout should be assessed, including material feeding, extruders, die maintenance space, forming equipment, cooling, haul-off, cutting, electrical cabinets, and finished-product handling.
The factory should provide sufficient space for safe operation and maintenance, together with suitable electrical capacity, cooling utilities, ventilation, raw material storage, and finished tile storage. Multilayer systems may require additional room for auxiliary extruders and material supply equipment.
Commissioning should include mechanical alignment, electrical checks, safety verification, temperature-control testing, trial production, and finished-product inspection. Final acceptance criteria should be based on the approved machine configuration and the customer's actual roofing tile specification.
18. EXTRUTEX Engineering and Manufacturing
EXTRUTEX combines Austrian design, laboratory, and research and development capabilities with manufacturing in China. This approach supports the development of extrusion equipment for different polymer processing applications and customer production requirements.
For glazed roof tile projects, EXTRUTEX can assess the intended material structure, extrusion capacity, die configuration, custom profile, forming tooling, cooling requirements, cutting system, and automation scope. The goal is to create a coordinated production solution tailored to the required product rather than relying on a single standard arrangement for every application.
