Extrusion Blow Molding (EBM) is one of the most widely used processes for producing hollow plastic parts such as bottles, containers, drums, automotive ducts, and industrial tanks. At the core of every EBM machine is the extruder unit – specifically the screw and barrel – which continuously melts and delivers homogeneous melt to the die head to form the parison.
When the screw and barrel wear, the consequences are immediate and costly: unstable parison thickness, poor melt quality, longer cycle times, higher energy consumption, increased scrap rates, and frequent process adjustments. EXTRUTEX specializes in manufacturing high-performance replacement screws and barrels for virtually every brand of Extrusion Blow Molding machine in the world. We offer both classic nitrided versions and advanced bimetallic versions according to the material and wear conditions of the customer.
In Extrusion Blow Molding, the screw must provide continuous, stable, and homogeneous melt delivery at a consistent output rate and temperature. Unlike injection molding, there is no “recovery” phase – the screw runs continuously while the parison is extruded. This places high demand on the screw geometry, surface condition, and the precise clearance between screw and barrel.
Typical problems caused by worn screws and barrels include fluctuating parison weight, visible flow lines, poor wall thickness distribution, black spots or gels, and difficulty maintaining consistent bottle weight. Abrasive fillers (such as calcium carbonate or glass fiber in industrial containers), corrosive materials (PVC, certain barrier resins), and high-output continuous operation accelerate wear. Once radial clearance increases beyond the design limit, melt quality and process stability deteriorate rapidly.
EXTRUTEX replacement screws and barrels are engineered to restore original performance or improve upon it through optimized geometry and superior wear-resistant materials.
Manufactured from high-quality nitriding steel (38CrMoAlA / DIN 1.8509 or equivalent). After precision machining, the components undergo deep gas or ion nitriding to achieve surface hardness of ≥ HV 900–1000 with a case depth of 0.5–0.8 mm. This version is ideal for general-purpose materials such as HDPE, LDPE, PP, and many standard bottle-grade resins.
For highly abrasive or corrosive applications, EXTRUTEX offers full bimetallic solutions. Barrels are lined with high-wear nickel-based or tungsten-carbide alloys. Screw flights can be hard-faced or manufactured from powder-metallurgy tool steels. Bimetallic versions are strongly recommended when processing recycled materials, high mineral-filled compounds, or aggressive resins that cause rapid wear on standard nitrided components.
We supply general-purpose, barrier, mixing, and high-output screws specifically optimized for continuous parison extrusion. Compression ratios, L/D ratios (commonly 24:1 to 32:1), and mixing sections are selected according to the resin, output rate, and machine size. Grooved feed sections are also available for improved solid conveying of certain materials.
EXTRUTEX maintains extensive dimensional databases and reverse-engineering capability for almost all major Extrusion Blow Molding machine manufacturers worldwide. We regularly produce exact-fit or performance-upgraded screws and barrels for the following brands:
Whether your machine is a classic Bekum or Kautex, a high-speed Magic or Uniloy, a large industrial Graham or Wilmington, or a cost-effective Asian EBM machine, EXTRUTEX can supply the correct screw and barrel – nitrided or bimetallic – matched to your process requirements.

Continuing to run with worn components leads to progressive quality problems and higher production costs. Many EBM processors only realize how much performance they have lost after installing a new EXTRUTEX screw and barrel set. Output becomes more stable, parison control improves, scrap rates drop, and the process becomes easier to manage. In most cases the investment pays for itself within a short period through higher productivity and lower waste.
For processors running recycled materials or filled compounds, the difference between a standard nitrided set and a bimetallic set can be dramatic in terms of service life. EXTRUTEX engineers can recommend the most cost-effective solution based on your specific resin, filler content, and production volume.
The screw and barrel are among the most critical wear parts in any Extrusion Blow Molding machine. Their condition directly affects product quality, process stability, energy use, and overall equipment effectiveness.
EXTRUTEX offers a complete solution: precision-manufactured replacement screws and barrels with full capability in both nitriding and bimetallic technology, compatible with Bekum, Kautex, Magic, Uniloy, Graham, Wilmington, Jomar, Automa, Techne, Rocheleau, FCS, and many other brands worldwide.
Whether you need a standard nitrided set for HDPE bottles or a heavy-duty bimetallic solution for abrasive recycled materials, EXTRUTEX delivers reliable performance, competitive pricing, and technical support.
