HAUL-OFFS FOR SMOOTH-WALL PIPE : M Series
Description
HAUL-OFFS FOR SMOOTH-WALL PIPE – M SERIES
EXTRUTEX M Series Pipe Haul-Offs
EXTRUTEX M Series haul-offs are designed for the controlled and continuous pulling of smooth-wall pipes manufactured from ABS, PVC, PE, PP and other thermoplastic materials. The series is suitable for modern pipe extrusion lines where stable traction, accurate line speed and reliable pipe handling are essential for maintaining consistent production quality.
The M Series can be configured for a wide range of pipe diameters, from compact small-diameter applications to large-diameter pipes up to 3,500 mm. Different caterpillar configurations, drive arrangements and contact lengths can be selected according to pipe diameter, material, wall thickness, extrusion speed and production requirements.
For complex multi-extruder or multi-layer applications, EXTRUTEX can also provide the Combopull configuration, combining up to four independently controlled haul-off units. Each traction unit can operate at its own precisely controlled speed, allowing different pulling requirements to be managed within the same extrusion system.
Available M Series Sizes
EXTRUTEX M Series haul-offs are available in configurations covering:
63 mm | 160 mm | 250 mm | 450 mm | 630 mm | 800 mm | 1,200 mm | 3,500 mm
The actual working range of each machine depends on the selected caterpillar width, pipe diameter, pipe material, wall thickness and extrusion-line configuration.
KEY FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES
1. Independent Traction Drive System
Each caterpillar is powered through an independent drive system, providing accurate control of the pulling force and line speed.
The drive system is designed to maintain stable traction throughout continuous production, helping to prevent sudden changes in pulling speed that could influence pipe dimensions, wall thickness and surface quality.
Independent drive control also allows the machine to respond effectively to different pipe materials and production conditions while reducing unnecessary mechanical transmission components.
2. High-Grip Caterpillar Traction
The M Series uses long-contact caterpillar tracks to provide a large gripping area around the pipe.
The extended contact surface distributes the pulling force over a larger section of the pipe instead of concentrating the traction in a small area. This is particularly important for:
Large-diameter pipes
Thin-wall pipes
Flexible PE and PP pipes
High-speed PVC production
Heavy-wall industrial pipes
Large-diameter extrusion applications
The result is stable and continuous pipe movement from the extrusion die toward the downstream equipment.
3. Optimized Caterpillar Geometry
The caterpillar assembly is designed with a controlled contact profile that follows the pipe surface while maintaining reliable traction.
The optimized geometry helps reduce unnecessary deformation of the caterpillar belts and minimizes excessive mechanical stress during continuous operation.
This design contributes to:
Longer belt service life
Stable pipe contact
Reduced belt deformation
Consistent pulling performance
Lower maintenance requirements
4. Adjustable Upper Traction Unit
The upper caterpillar assembly is designed for controlled adjustment according to the pipe diameter.
The adjustable structure allows the operator to establish the required contact pressure without applying excessive force to the pipe.
Correct pressure control is particularly important for soft or flexible thermoplastic materials where excessive compression could deform the pipe.
The system therefore provides a controlled balance between:
traction force + pipe protection + dimensional stability
5. Motorized Caterpillar Positioning
The lower traction assembly can be positioned according to the required pipe diameter.
Motorized adjustment allows faster and more convenient machine setup when changing between different pipe sizes.
This is especially useful on production lines manufacturing multiple pipe diameters, reducing setup time and making diameter changes more efficient.
The positioning system can be integrated with the machine control system according to the required automation level.
6. Non-Marking Traction Pads
The caterpillar tracks are equipped with specially selected rubber or elastomer traction pads designed for reliable grip while minimizing surface marking.
The contact material can be selected according to the pipe application and thermoplastic material.
This is particularly important for pipes where surface appearance, printing quality, coating adhesion or dimensional accuracy must be maintained.
The traction surface provides a controlled combination of:
Grip
Pressure distribution
Surface protection
Wear resistance
Long operating life
PRECISE LINE-SPEED CONTROL
Accurate haul-off speed is essential in pipe extrusion because the pulling speed directly influences the final dimensions and wall thickness of the pipe.
EXTRUTEX M Series systems are designed to provide stable and precisely controlled linear movement.
The haul-off can be synchronized with the extrusion line so that the pulling speed remains consistent during continuous production.
Depending on the complete line configuration, the control system can coordinate:
Extruder → Die Head → Cooling → Haul-Off → Cutting → Stacking
This creates a synchronized downstream process and helps maintain consistent production conditions.
COMBOPULL – MULTI-HAUL-OFF CONFIGURATION
For specialized extrusion systems, EXTRUTEX offers the Combopull concept.
The Combopull configuration allows up to four haul-off units to operate within one extrusion line.
Each haul-off can be independently controlled, including its own traction speed. This makes the system suitable for applications where different extrusion sections require different pulling conditions.
The four traction units can be configured according to the line architecture and product requirements.
Combopull advantages
Up to four independently controlled haul-off units
Individual speed adjustment
Flexible multi-extruder line configuration
Suitable for complex pipe extrusion systems
Synchronization with extrusion-line control
Accurate traction management
Suitable for multi-layer and co-extrusion applications
The individual speed control allows EXTRUTEX engineers to configure the pulling system according to the actual process requirements rather than using a single fixed traction speed for the complete line.

The machine configuration can include different:
Caterpillar dimensions
Traction lengths
Drive capacities
Rubber pad specifications
Pipe-contact arrangements
Adjustment systems
Speed ranges
